Owned by restaurateur Agostino Sciandri and Hollywood legend Robert Deniro, Ago isn’t your grandmother’s Italian restaurant. It’s hip, fun, and social while still maintaining an elegant appeal. Acclaimed chef Sergio Santoro draws in celebrities and locals alike. The authentic Tuscan-style cuisine includes fresh fish, meats, and pasta dishes that have made the restaurant a favorite among dining enthusiasts. More than just a restaurant, Ago also offers a plush lounge setting with flat screen TVs and more than a few A-listers that drop by regularly. It also has an intimate dining area that features a special “Cava” room that is designed to look like an underground wine cave. The cuisine is a step above the average Italian eatery, as proven by the success of the Ago restaurant in Los Angeles, which has been a favorite for years.
Unique entrees like the Pappardelle allo Stracotto di Cinghiale (flat egg pasta with wild-boar stew) and the Gnocchi di Patate con Gamberi e Zucchine (Potato dumpling with prawns, cherry tomatoes & zucchini) are just a few of the interesting pasta dishes served at Ago. Entrée options are divided into pizza, pasta, meat, and fish, with a selection of sides such as roasted potatoes, asparagus, and rapini. Fish entrees include the Tonno Scottato con Caponata di Verdure (a seared ahi-tuna with caponata and basil-oil) and Branzino ai Ferri con Pane Profumato (a wild Mediterranean Sea Bass grilled in breadcrumbs with vegetables and salmorglio). Meat entrees like the Lombo di Maialino con Cavolo Nero e Patate (roasted pork chop with black cabbage and rosemary potatoes) and the Piccione al Forno con Patate e Funghi Selvatici (whole roasted squab with shallots and wild mushroom ragout) go above and beyond what you might expect to find at an Italian restaurant. Another popular specialty is the perfectly thin and crispy wood-fired Margherita pizza. However, the desserts at Ago often get more attention than the main dishes. There are almost a dozen desserts to choose from, and all are decadent and delicious. The mango panna cotta, dark chocolate tortino, and tiramisu are a few of the favorites. After hours, the lounge area draws in a nighttime crowd with signature martinis, a great selection of wines, and small plates from the bar menu. |
